James Webb is the Vice President and CIO for West Texas A&M University, a member of the Texas A&M University System. James was named by Computerworld as a Premier 100 IT Leader (2012); the recipient of the first ever Campus Partner award by the Sybil B. Harrington College of Fine Arts and Humanities (2018); recognized as an IT innovator in the public sector by Cisco (2011); and received the University Staff Excellence award (2009).  

James collaboratively developed the technology strategy that fueled a 28 percent growth in enrollment over the last decade while generating $12M in cost savings through the establishment of a virtualized data center to provide agile, flexible and secure workloads.

By intentionally focusing on three strategic areas; customer service excellence; ongoing technological innovation; and the balance between business demands and information assurance and security, James has been able to deliver extraordinary business results.

WT Mobile

Established the campus mobile app as a strategic initiative that included innovative features such as an admissions fast track application, a virtual reality campus tour, smart connected campus transportation, the campus radio station, a tuition calculator and campus safety features.

WT Connects to Global Wi-Fi Network

Launched the University’s Internet2 connection to the global eduroam network through a collaboration with Copenhagen Business School and the Paul and Virginia Engler College of Business 2019 study abroad cohorts.
